About Us
Since 2015, the Office of Neighborhood and Community Relations at Northwestern University has redefined our partnership with the City of Evanston, transforming it into a benchmark for university-city collaborations nationwide.
Our mission is straightforward yet ambitious: to elevate the social, economic, and educational sectors of Evanston through meaningful partnerships, effective policy advocacy, and community-engaged initiatives. Rooted in the core values of educational empowerment, economic and community development, and health and well-being, we tackle the community’s most difficult challenges with innovative and lasting solutions.
We've made notable strides in strengthening the local community, particularly with our leadership in the landmark $150 million Community Benefits Agreement. Our collaborative efforts with the local school districts have substantially enhanced K-12 educational resources, nurturing a new generation of learners and leaders. Through these strategic investments and cooperative endeavors, we’ve cultivated an atmosphere of mutual respect and shared growth, ensuring that Northwestern and Evanston prosper together.
Navigating the complexities of university-community relations, our office has proactively addressed racial equity and initiated pioneering programs like the Evanston Guaranteed Income Program. These efforts have not only underscored our commitment as a socially engaged institution but also funneled significant funding into supporting our community's most vulnerable residents, improving the overall social fabric of Evanston.
Ultimately, the Office of Neighborhood and Community Relations is more than just a bridge between Northwestern and Evanston; we are a testament to the incredible outcomes possible when a university truly commits to the welfare and prosperity of its community. We are an integral part of Evanston, dedicated to a shared vision of creating a flourishing, vibrant, and inclusive environment for all.
