Welcome to Northwestern!

September 16-22, 2008

Wildcat Welcome is a week-long orientation program for new freshmen and transfer students. Along with your peer advisee group members, you will participate in discussions to learn about the University and our community values, enjoy an array of social activities, and learn about the many campus services.

Moving into a new environment can be exciting, but it can also be intimidating. Fortunately, one of your fellow students, an upperclassman called a Peer Adviser, will work with you and your peer advising group throughout Wildcat Welcome. He or she has been through this all before and will be pleased to help you during the Wildcat Welcome program and beyond.

Components of Wildcat Welcome

1. Academic Advising and Class Registration
You will receive professional advising on your course selection based on your academic school and choice of major.

2. College Transition Discussions
We will help you make a successful transition and adjustment to Northwestern University by discussing various topics that every new student will need to know. Topics include: diversity, alcohol and drugs, campus safety, academic integrity, and social responsibility.

3. Peer Adviser
You will all have a Peer Adviser that will help you before, during, and after Wildcat Welcome. These upperclass students have been trained and know what to expect during your first year at Northwestern. They will be a valuable resource, and are available for you to ask questions, share concerns or find guidance.

4. Making Friends
Whether you are coming from another country or you are from Evanston, making friends is a priority for nearly all new students who come to Northwestern. Wildcat Welcome will give you multiple opportunities to meet other new students and make new friends.

5. Parent and Family Orientation
Parents and family members go through a transition when you go to college too. We offer parents and family members various informational sessions and a resource fair to give them as much information as possible.

6. Special Community Orientations
Whether you are a transfer student, an international student, or a student of color, we have opportunities to find your niche here at Northwestern. There will be a variety of events and programs for everyone through the Wildcat Welcome program. Please consult the Wildcat Welcome schedule for more information.
