Mission
Multicultural Student Affairs, founded in 2004, was created to promote the interests and celebrate the cultural diversity of the Northwestern University community. Through programs and services, Multicultural Student Affairs supports academic excellence, facilitates intercultural development, and challenges students to participate in a more pluralistic learning environment.
Our mission is designed within the framework of the University’s Highest Order of Excellence II and grounded in the Division of Student Affairs’ strategic plan. In order to implement these goals, Multicultural Student Affairs will:
- Act as a primary resource for all students to have an impact as a cultural community at Northwestern.
- Foster an environment where learning is embedded in academic, social, and cultural programming.
- Collaborate with academic and University departments in designing initiatives that contribute to understanding the value of diversity.
In fulfilling its mission, Multicultural Student Affairs is composed of the following units:
- African American Student Affairs (founded 1968)
- Asian/Asian American Student Affairs (founded 2001)
- Hispanic/Latino Student Affairs (founded 2000)
Structure
Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) is comprised of three departments: African American Student Affairs, Asian/Asian American Student Affairs, and Hispanic/Latino Student Affairs. MSA is a unit within the Division of Student Affairs.
