Michael Wilbon (J80) took a break from sports commentary to help shine a spotlight on some of Northwestern’s most accomplished alumni and friends. The co-host of the ESPN show Pardon the Interruption emceed a lively and memorable ceremony at the 79th annual Northwestern Alumni Association Alumni Awards on March 3 at the Four Seasons Chicago. In all, 19 alumni and one nonalumnus received awards in recognition of their accomplishments and service.

Distinguished attorney and Northwestern Life Trustee Thomas Z. Hayward Jr. (WCAS62, L65) was honored with the Alumni Medal, the mark of highest distinction granted to a Northwestern alumnus or alumna. The NAA also presented the Alumni Service to Society Award, the Emerging Leader Award, Alumni Merit Awards and Alumni Service Awards and debuted the Grant Goodrich Achievement Award, which honors a nongraduate who has greatly enhanced the University. Goodrich, one of the key leaders among Northwestern’s founders, was responsible for drafting the University’s charter and getting it approved by the Illinois legislature in 1851.
