National Clubs


On Jan. 17 the Latino Alumni of Northwestern University (LANU) and Northwestern's Hispanic/Latino Student Affairs held the third annual Latino Networking Gala at the John Evans Alumni Center. The gala featured speaker Vince Allocco, president and executive director of the Chicago nonprofit El Valor. Kenneth Cebrian, a McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science junior, received the 2007–08 LANU Scholarship.

The Northwestern University Dental School Alumni Association (NUDS) held its seventh annual Midwinter Alumni Reception Feb. 23 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Chicago Dental Society's Midwinter Meeting.

On Feb. 28 the John Evans Club board hosted Professor David Taylor, assistant chair of the physics and astronomy department, who presented "Straight Talk about Global Warming." Taylor explored the basic physics behind global warming, including the natural and human factors that warm and cool our planet.

The Northwestern University Marching and Band Alumni (NUMBALUMS) recently released a new CD of 20 songs performed by the "Wildcat" Marching Band. Push On! features traditional Northwestern spirit songs, such as the Northwestern Alma Mater, "Go U Northwestern" and "Push On." Recorded in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, the music was conducted by Dan Farris, produced by Travis Cross (GMu06) and engineered by Charles B. Hawes (Mu67, GMu70, 77). The CD costs $15 and will be available at the Norris University Center bookstore, Let's Tailgate in Evanston and online through the Northwestern Alumni Association.
