NUEA (Northwestern University Entertainment Alliance) East will celebrate Northwestern’s connection to Broadway March 20 at A Night with Northwestern in New York, co-sponsored with the NAA at the Hudson Theatre. The event, “A Toast to the Past, A Toast to the Future,? features a concert of original music composed by Jeff Blumenkrantz (C86) (Urban Cowboy: The Musical), Marcy Heisler (the upcoming Ever After), Dan Lipton (Mu97), Michael Mahler (C04), Curtis Moore (Mu95) and Alan Schmuckler (C05). Performers include Kate Baldwin (C97) (Wonderful Town, The Full Monty and Thoroughly Modern Millie), Tony Award?nominee Stephanie D’Abruzzo Shemin (C93) (Avenue Q, see “From Sesame Street to Broadway,” winter 2004), Richard Kind (C78) (The Producers on Broadway and Spin City on television), Jenny Powers (Mu03) (Little Women), Kate Shindle (C99) (Cabaret and Jekyll & Hyde), Jim Weitzer (C96) (Little Women and The Phantom of the Opera) and a select group of music theater students under the direction of Northwestern professor Missimi.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, NUEA West helped alumni television writers polish their scripts at a Television Writers Spec Workshop in January and February. The four-week workshop also gave comedy and drama writers a chance to network and get advice about finding agents, pitching stories and other industry issues.
