Students at Northwestern are fortunate to have a wide variety of living facilities available to them. Smaller undergraduate residences accommodate as few as 26 students; larger units house more than 600. Most rooms are doubles, but residences also contain single, triple, quadruple, and suite arrangements. Students may select a residential college, a coeducational residence hall, or a facility where all members are of the same sex. Some of the houses are older, ivy-covered residences; others are modern, recently built halls. Each building has its own character and spirit, and its own distinct advantages. In recent surveys, we have found that most students living in undergraduate housing feel that their particular residence is "one of the best places on campus to live."

Approximately 4,150 undergraduate students live in the University's residence halls; some 900 students have chosen to live in fraternity or sorority houses. The remaining approximately 2,600 undergraduates commute from home or live off campus.

The Undergraduate Housing Office makes room assignments for undergraduate students. This is also the office to contact if you want to change the number of meals for which you have contracted, or if you have questions about your room and board bill. Questions about tuition, which appears on the same bill, should be directed to the Office of Student Accounts, 619 Clark Street, Evanston, IL 60208, phone 847-491-5224.
