Northwestern's Internet Services

All student rooms in University residence halls are connected to the campus computer network and from there to the World Wide Web and Internet. The Internet provides access to discussion groups and data resources on a wide range of subjects, both academic and recreational. The network connection also provides residents with access to the card catalog and other resources of the Northwestern University Library as well as to NUInfo, the campus electronic bulletin board and calendar. New services are added to the network regularly; it is an important part of campus life at Northwestern.

To use the residence hall connection, residents must have a computer with the capability to connect to 10Base-T Ethernet; residents are responsible for the cost of making their computer "Ethernet ready." Northwestern will make it easy for students who already own a computer to make the necessary connection when they arrive on campus in the fall.

In addition to providing the network connection, Northwestern provides basic software programs and training for residents to take advantage of this exciting capability.

If you have questions about connecting your computer to the campus computer network, contact the residential networking consultant in your residence hall or Technology Support Services tel: 847-491-HELP (4357).
