  2. Return all keys and key cards to the front desk of your residence hall.

Helpful Hints
The loading docks are open weekdays from 8am to 4pm. It is much easier to move in or out when the dock is open. Temporary parking is available at the docks, but this parking is for loading and unloading only. There is a 1/2 hour time limit, and it is strictly enforced. Please leave a note in your car window while you are parked on the dock. Do not block the sidewalk or any other vehicle. Anyone not following these basic guidelines is subject to ticket and tow at the owner's expense. Please do not leave your belongings unattended at either your car or your room while moving in and out. Always lock your car and your room while making a trip from one to the other.

Be sure to remove all of your belongings from the room when you move out. We clean rooms as quickly as possible after they become vacant. Any items left behind are discarded in accordance with departmental policy.

Air Conditioning
Air conditioning is not included in your room rent. You may rent an air conditioner through the front desk. You may also install your own air conditioner, but you are required to get approval first. The charges for installing your own air conditioner are the same as the charges for renting one through the desk.

Cot Rental
A limited number of cots are available for rental through the front desks on a nightly basis.

Custodial/Maintenance/Pest Control
There is a repair request book located at the front desks for service requests. Please note your requests there. Be sure to notify the front desk (or University Police when the desks are closed) if you have an urgent need for service (e.g., lights out, leaky plumbing, etc.) You should receive action on your request within one to two working days, and typically a note will be left in your room letting you know the work has been completed. Should you have any questions about a service request contact the Manager of Graduate Housing at 3-8509.

Furniture
Please allow our staff to remove any furniture from your room you do not need. This will prevent you from being charged for it when you leave. We also have some additional furniture in storage if you need to exchange a piece from your room or would like an additional piece. Any requests to remove or add furniture may be left in the service request book at the front desk.

Front Desk
The Abbott Hall front desk is open weekdays from 9am to 5pm.

Garbage/Recycling
There is a garbage room located on each floor of the residence halls. Please take your trash to the cans in tightly tied bags for disposal. There are also recylcing stations on each floor of the residence halls. These bins are for paper, aluminum, glass, and plastic.

Guests/Guest Keys
Reservations are accepted in the Housing Office for guests on a space available basis. We do not issue duplicate keys for guests staying in your room. This is a security precaution. Keys for guests staying in your rooms should be left in your mailbox along with a note authorizing the guest to have access to them.

Housekeeping Services
Hallways and commons areas (including washrooms) are cleaned daily. Housekeepers are not permitted to clean occupied rooms.

Laundry Rooms
The laundry room in Abbott Hall is located in the basement. The laundry room has washers and dryers which can be operated using coins or using the WildCard.

Light Bulbs
Incandescent bulbs are available at the front desks. Fluorescent bulbs will be replaced by our staff. Please put a note in the service request book for that assistance.

Lockouts
Contact the front desk for assistance. If the desk is close, contact University Police. In either case, please be prepared to show photo ID before being allowed into the room. Be aware it may take up to a half hour for assistance.

Lost Keys
Residents who lose their keys will be charged a lock replacement fee. Contact the front desk for further information should you lose your keys.

Mail, Registered Mail, and Packages
Mail is delivered daily to the residence halls with the exception of Sundays and holidays. We try to have all first class mail distributed by mid-afternoon and all othe mail distributed by 5pm. Each building receives a tremendous volume of mail daily, and we do occasionally make a misktake in handling the mail. If you receive a piece of mail that is not yours, please return it to the front desk.

Registered mail and packages will be held at the desk and a notice put in your mailbox notifying you of their receipt. CODs will only be accepted by prior arrangement with the front desk. Packages may be sent from the loading docks via UPS. Weigh the package before calling UPS (Abbott Hall scale at dock, LSC scale in weight room). Bring the package and the payment (made out to UPS) to the dock.

Security
Abbott Hall is locked from 7pm to 7am. This is for the safety and security of our residents. Please use your electronic key to enter the building during these hours, and please don't allow persons you don't know to enter the building either by opening the doors or by allowing them to follow you through the doors. You should meet any expected guests at the front door during these hours. You may also leave word with the door monitor to allow your guests entry. It is very important that the exterior doors (including fire escape doors) not be propped open at any time.

Lock your room door whenever you leave no matter for how short a time. It is also a good idea to lock your room door when you are sleeping or napping.

Report any suspicious person or activity immediately to University Police or the front desk. Common sense and a willingness to help with these basic safety precautions will go a long way in preventing crimes of opportunity against you or your fellow residents.

Storage
Storage space is available for trunks and hard suitcases only. Contact the loading dock for further assistance.

Vacuum Cleaners
Vacuum cleaners are available to borrow from the front desk. There is a 1/2 hour time limit on their use. Be sure to check to see if the bag needs emptying before using the vacuum cleaner, and report any problems with the machine to the front desk when you return it.

Vending/Game Refunds
Refunds for change lost in the vending machines in the lobby or laundry room are available at the front desk of Abott Hall.
