Advising
Individual Student Advising
One of our primary services is providing students with advice on issues regarding their academics as well as their cultural, social, and professional development. After general advising students may receive a referral to another
department, office, or service on campus that is more qualified
or suitable to assist the student further.
Student Group Advising
Asian/Asian American Student Affairs also advises all Asian/Asian American student groups at Northwestern and assists them with their organizational and programmatic development.
Advocacy
Asian/Asian American Student Affairs advocates on behalf of the Asian/Asian American community on campus to propose, promote, and support initiatives that benefit not only the Asian/Asian American community but the entire Northwestern community as well.
In addition, we ensure that the voices of all Asian and Asian American students are heard by the University at both the student-body level and the administration level.
Outreach
Prospective, Newly Admitted & Current Students
In conjunction with other offices including Undergraduate Admissions and the International Office, we engage in outreach endeavors to prospective students, newly admitted, and current students by
raising their awareness about what our department and community has to offer.
Weekly Listserv
We also outreach to students in general through our office listserv and Facebook group. The weekly listserv message contains a link to the announcements webpage. This section of our website serves as an e-newsletter sharing resources and opportunities that may be of interest to Asian and Asian American students.
Facebook Group
In addition to the listserv, Asian/Asian American Student Affairs also has a Facebook group, which is used periodically (not weekly) to post upcoming events and news sponsored by the office. In contrast, the listserv is used weekly to share more campus-wide resources and opportunities.

Community Building
Especially through the Asian/Asian American student groups, Asian/Asian American Student Affairs contributes to the building of a cohesive, inclusive, and expansive Asian/Asian American community on campus.
Collaborations
Asian/Asian American Student Affairs partners with various university departments and offices, primarily those in the Division of Student Affairs, to create resources and opportunities that may contribute to the development of students.
Networks
Asian/Asian American Student Affairs has relationships within a collective network of professionals and organizations that offer support and opportunities for our students. Such relationships are with Asian and Asian American alumni, regional and national Asian/Asian American community-based organizations, and colleagues at other colleges and universities.
Resources
Resource Library
We used to have a Resource Library, but the books, periodicals, and videos have been recently cataloged and stored at the University Library so that they are more easily searchable by and shared with the Northwestern community.
Resource Room
We have a Resource Room for academic and professional opportunities located in Room 103 of the Multicultural Center. Open to all students, the Resource Room provides material on academic opportunities, financial aid, scholarships, fellowships, internships, and jobs that are generally available to minority students and specifically available to students of Asian descent.
Online Resources
The Resource Room is supplemented by a section of our website that is devoted to online resources for academic and professional development opportunities. Information available in the Resource Room may not be listed in the "Online Resources" section (and vice versa).
Computer Lab
Located on the 2nd floor of the Multicultural Center is a computer lab free for students to use for researching opportunities, doing homework, checking email, or just browsing the internet.
