Selection Process, Timeline and Residency Guidelines

The 2022-2023 Application Opens January 15th

We are accepting applications for the 2022-2023 academic year from January 15 to April 1, 2022. 

Initial Screening Materials

  • Cover letter (1 Page) 
  • Current résumé or CV 
  • Application form with proposed research, art, activist, and other proposed projects to engage Northwestern University 

Fellowship Review and Selection Process

  • Applications are accepted online from January 15th-April 15th, 2022      
  • Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of Northwestern faculty and staff in April. 
  • Final candidates are submitted to Northwestern’s Office of Research for final approval. If the finalist is international, the International Office will also review their application. 
  • Residency awardees and other applicants will be notified in May of each year

Feminist in Residence Onboarding Requirements

  • Residents will complete visiting Scholar Health Insurance Application/Waiver, required before the visitor’s start date 
  • Attend orientation and planning session with Women’s Center staff 
  • Is subject to all Northwestern University policies and Northwestern Visitor Guidelines  in accordance with the Office of Research

Residency Commitments

  • 1 full academic year (note: Northwestern University operates on a quarter system. The academic year begins in the 3rd week of September and ends during the 3rd week in June. Those who work on semester systems can propose alternate start-end dates) 
  • fall Meet the Resident Event
  • Attendance at Women's Staff Staff Meetings once quarterly
  • Spring culminating event, ie. exhibition, workshops, performance, lecture, . . .
  • Optional: One community-based engagement or online engagement, guest appearances in on campus groups or in related courses, attendance at additional women's center events.
