Selection Process, Timeline and Residency Guidelines

The 2024 - 2025 Application Opens March 15th and closes on May 15th of 2024.

We are accepting applications for the 2024 -2025 academic year from March 15, 2024 to May 15, 2024.

Initial Screening Materials

  • Current résumé or CV 
  • Application form with a proposed program to engage Northwestern University and project the resident will be undertaking. 
  • Samples of artistic work (can be uploaded within the application)

Fellowship Review and Selection Process

  • Applications are accepted online from March 15 to May 15, 2024.    
  • Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of Northwestern faculty and staff in May and June. 
  • Final candidates are submitted to Northwestern’s Office of Research for final approval. If the finalist is international, the International Office will also review their application. 
  • Residency awardees and other applicants will be notified in July. 
  • We will use the fall quarter to get to know our new resident and plan for the work ahead. Actual engagement with our communities takes place during winter and/or spring quarters and culminates in an exhibition/presentation during our Garden Party in early June. 

Feminist in Residence Onboarding Requirements

  • Residents will complete a Visiting Scholar Health Insurance Application/Waiver, required before the visitor’s start date 
  • Complete a Visiting Scholar Request form, I-9 and Personal Data Form
  • Attend orientation and planning session with Women’s Center staff 
  • Is subject to all Northwestern University policies and Northwestern Visitor Guidelines under the Office of Research

Residency Commitments

  • 1 full academic year (note: Northwestern University operates on a quarter system. The academic year begins in the 3rd week of September and ends during the 3rd week in June. Those who work on semester systems can propose alternate start-end dates). Residents onboard with our staff internally in the fall quarter, lead a campus engagement in the winter or spring, and present the work they took on throughout the residency at our June Garden Party. 
  • There are only two mandatory in-person commitments (though residents are welcome to any events or meetings they wish to attend): 
    • One winter or spring program of your design aimed at engaging our communities at Northwestern. 
    • The Garden Party / Feminist in Residence Exhibition during our Garden Party during the first or second week of June. 
  • Attendance at Women's Staff Staff Meetings once quarterly. Virtual attendance is fine. 
  • Optional: One community-based engagement or online engagement, guest appearances in on-campus groups or in related courses, attendance at additional women's center events.
