Frequently Asked Questions

The 2020-2021 application is now closed. Applications are now closed for the 2020-2021 cycle, but check back next fall to apply to be next year's resident.

Does the Feminist in Residence fellowship offer a salary and benefits?

No. This visiting post is not a staff position and does not offer salary or benefits. It does offer a 10K stipend to be used for project development, materials, travel, project related events, and/or research.

Does the Feminist in Residence program offer accommodations/housing?

No. The fellowship was developed to engage local Chicago area feminists who would be still allowed to be employed in addition to being a fellow. The fellowship offers dedicated office space at our Women’s Center on our Chicago campus. Applicants who don’t live in the Chicago area would be responsible for securing their own housing but we are happy to share both local and Northwestern resources to help with that endeavor.

Are there required office hours?

No. However, residents are required to participate in four Women’s Center events throughout the academic year. We also require fellows to attend a planning meeting with our staff so that we can integrate the residency into our annual programming. In addition to these five touch points, applicants are strongly encouraged to share their four project related engagements that they are proposing within their applications. Including ideal date ranges and the nature of the events/engagements help us to collaboratively decide what are the best times to schedule them within the fellowship timeframe.

Does the fellowship offer childcare?

No. The fellowship does not offer childcare but we are feminists and would help to secure childcare for our fellows during events if needed. We also are open to arranging for on-site childcare for evening and weekend events.

Does Northwestern offer on campus parking?

Yes. Northwestern has several parking options on both campuses. There is discounted parking and metered street parking on the Chicago campus. There are paid lots and garages as well as free two hour parking options on the Evanston Campus. Evanston Campus parking is open after 4pm and on the weekends

Can I collaborate with other faculty, staff, and student groups on campus?

Ideally, yes! Please outline your interests in your application and we will be sure to facilitate discussions with our campus partners and academic departments about opportunities for collaboration.
