Resources and Referrals

The Women’s Center provides resource and referral information for all students, staff, and faculty.  Our staff members have established relationships with many community and campus organizations serving a variety of needs.

 Confidentiality

The Women's Center is a space where you can receive support on sensitive matters and rest assured that they can be kept confidential.  Regarding sexual misconduct specifically, below is a statement from the policy that speaks to our level of confidentiality.

“The University recognizes that students, staff, and faculty may want to speak with someone at the University about sexual misconduct without the information disclosed being reported to the Title IX Coordinator. Northwestern has designated the following staff, faculty, and paid student employees as resources who are not obligated to report disclosures or information about sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator that they learn in the scope of their University work (except in very limited situations, such as when failure to disclose the information would result in imminent danger to the individual or to others or where federal or state law requires a report be made).”

Though Women’s Center staff are designated as confidential in terms of not being required to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the University, we are not privileged, meaning that should a student, staff, or faculty member disclose an experience of sexual violence, we can become involved in litigation regarding the incident and could be obligated to disclose the information that is shared with us.

Drop In

The Women's Center hosts drop in hours for students, staff and faculty to come and talk to someone that same day.  Drop in hours will be updated regularly through our weekly newsletter and Facebook page.

Referral

The Women's Center understands that there are many organizations both on and off campus that do great work related to gender issues.  We are a place where you can receive referrals to other resources or we may suggest a referral if someone else is better suited to assist you.  You can always reach out to us directly if you are looking for a referral to a specific type of organization or person
