Navigating myHR

How do I log into myHR?

Log in to myHR from our homepage or by navigating directly to

myHR requires use of Multi-factor Authentication (MFA); for more information, visit the MFA webpage or enroll/manage your MFA information.

How is my information secured?

The upgrade to myHR includes the following security features to protect your data:

  • Multi-factor authentication and single sign-on, implemented in late 2016, enforce a dual authentication process to provide an additional layer of validation when accessing the system.
  • New database encryption software has been added in myHR, supplying an another layer of protection to your HR data.

Remember, Northwestern will never ask you to divulge your password in person or via email. To further protect yourself, learn how to identify email scams or read more about Secure IT at Northwestern.

Which browsers are compatible with myHR?

You can access myHR using the following minimum browser versions:

  • Desktop/Laptop Computers:
    • Chrome: 43+
    • Firefox: 42+, 38ESR
    • Internet Explorer: 11+
    • Safari: 8+
  • Mobile Devices:
    • Android - any device using Chrome on Android 5.0+
    • iOS - any device using Safari 8+

Why was I not asked for my password?

myHR utilizes Northwestern's Single-sign On (SSO) service. If you are already logged into another Northwestern system that utilizes SSO, you automatically will be logged into myHR.

To completely sign out of all SSO authenticated services, log out of any system and completely close your browser.

How do I log out of myHR?

To log out of myHR, click the menu button in the top right corner (three horizontal lines), and select "Sign Out."  Completely close your browser window.

Signing out of myHR will sign you out of any other SSO-authenticated service, such as NUFinancials, NUPortal, and more.

Can I use my browser's "back" button?

For the most reliable navigation, do not use your browser's back and forward buttons. Instead, use in the internal navigation and menus available within myHR.

I am trying to view my paycheck, but it's not opening.

Your paycheck will open in a new pop-up tab or browser window.  To correctly view your paycheck, please ensure that you turn off your browser's pop-up blocker or allow pop-ups from the website.

I received an email from myHR, but the link isn't working.

Sometimes you may receive an email with a myHR link that is intended to take you to a specific page or function (e.g. training enrollment, job posting, position funding approval).

If, after logging into myHR, you see a search screen instead of the intended page, simply click the "Search" button to continue.

If you still cannot see the appropriate information, contact myHR Help for assistance.

Using eRecruit

How do I see my job openings/applicants?

To access your Staff or Faculty eRecruit pages:

  1. Log in with your NetID and NetID Password to myHR.  
  2. Click the "Self Service" drop-down box in the center of your screen, and select "Manager Self Service."
  3. Click the "Recruiting" tile.
  4. Use the "Quick Links" menu on the left to navigate to the appropriate page, or select a job opening to view on the right side of your screen.

How do I review/approve items (job opening, offer, additional pay, funding, journals)?

All approvals are easily accessible from the "Approvals" tile:

  1. Log in with your NetID and NetID Password to myHR.  
  2. Click the "Self Service" drop-down box in the center of your screen, and select "Manager Self Service."
  3. Click the "Approvals" tile.
  4. Use the left-side menu to select an approval category (e.g. Job Opening or Additional Pay).
  5. Select a pending item to review and approve/deny.

Using myHR Administration Pages

How do I access my Admin pages?

To access your administration pages:

  1. Log in with your NetID and NetID Password to myHR (for Production data), or the myHR Reporting (for Reporting/Queries).  
  2. Click the "Compass" icon at the top right of your screen.
  3. Select "Classic View."
  4. Navigate to your Admin pages using the classic menu structure.

Where can I find my queries?

Admin users with Query access can access their private and public queries in the myHR Reporting database:

Log in with your NetID and NetID Password, click the compass icon in the top right corner, select "Classic Home," and navigate to the Query Manager or Query Viewer.
