Regional Clubs
Spring activities included an art gallery tour in Chicago’s River North area in April and a second round of gallery hopping in the West Loop in May. In California the NU Club of Coachella Valley brought alumni snowbirds together in February and March for a variety of events including a performance by 2002 Waa-Mu members at the Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif., presentations by guest speakers from the area and a golf tournament. The NU Clubs of Phoenix, Sun City and Tucson hosted Bernard Dobroski (GMu81), dean of the School of Music, and Sherrill Milnes, John Evans Professor of Music, for a mix of reminiscing, storytelling and singing in February. Milnes, a Grammy Award–winning baritone, also performed opera selections and art and folk songs for the “Memories and Music” presentation. Wildcat basketball fans from the NU Club of Los Angeles gathered to watch February’s Northwestern-Illinois game at Tony P’s Dockside Grill in Marina Del Ray, Calif. At the event the club auctioned off a team-autographed basketball, various Northwestern items and a Tony P’s gift certificate. Lee Huebner (WCAS62), professor of communication and journalism, presented Globalization: The Media and America’s Changing Role to more than 80 people before the NU Club of Greater New York in March and the NU Club of Coachella Valley in April.
