Welcome to the First Day of the 2022-23 Academic Year

Dear members of the Northwestern community,

Welcome to the first day of the 2022-23 academic year!

The past eight days have been an extraordinary time for me. I have truly enjoyed meeting and talking with many of you already.

I look forward to meeting many more of you soon, and I hope you might join me at two separate Coffee and Donuts events on the Chicago and Evanston campuses in the coming weeks. I intend to spend a great deal of time learning from you about the hopes and aspirations of this great community.

I am grateful for the remarkable leadership of my predecessors, especially my former teacher and mentor Henry Bienen and my friend Morty Schapiro. They have helped position Northwestern for a future that is limitless in its possibilities. It is for us now to take the next steps, with boldness and imagination.

In all that I do, I hope to establish a reputation for being honest, kind, inclusive and transparent.  It is an honor to be your 17th president, and I will do my utmost on your behalf.
