Shooting at Highland Park Parade

Dear faculty, staff and students,

I’m horrified by news of yet another mass shooting, this one in a community many of us call home.

As we continue to learn more about the violence in Highland Park that has killed at least six people and left more than two dozen others injured, we must strengthen our resolve to work tirelessly to make our community and our nation better for all who live here.

On a day set aside to celebrate America’s ideals, this act of gun violence serves as yet another reminder of how much work must still be done to realize them. I know many of you were already hurting from recent issues that are dividing our nation. In times like these, it is more important than ever for all of us to provide care and support to our friends, families and community members.
