Michael T. Chin

2022-michael_chin_0001.jpg Michael Chin joined Northwestern’s Office of General Counsel in 2019 as Associate General Counsel. Prior to joining Northwestern, Mike served as Senior Counsel, Labor and Employment at Stepan Company, where he focused on employment litigation, union matters, internal investigations, employee benefits, regulatory compliance, workers’ compensation, and general employment counseling. Before Stepan, Mike was an associate attorney with Morrison Foerster in Los Angeles and, subsequently, Schiff Hardin in Chicago.

 Mike received his B.A. in history from Pomona College and his J.D. from the University of Michigan. Between college and law school, he taught high school biology and environmental science in New Orleans through Teach for America.

Mike’s principal areas of responsibility in the Office of General Counsel are labor and employment counseling, compliance, and litigation.  He is licensed to practice in Illinois and California and is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
