Matthew Kopp
Matthew Kopp joined Northwestern’s Office of General Counsel in 2018 and is currently Senior Associate General Counsel. He previously held the position of Associate General Counsel. Prior to joining Northwestern, Matt was promoted to Senior Counsel at Baxter International/Healthcare focusing on business development, licensing, M&A, securities, corporate governance, board work, complex commercial contracts, capital markets, and general corporate counseling and advice. Prior to that, Matt was a Partner at Jenner & Block in its corporate group concentrating on similar matters, and was designated a Rising Star by Super Lawyers.
Matt received his bachelor degree in business administration magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago, and was the recipient of the Presidential Medallion. Matt received his juris doctor degree cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis. Matt is licensed to practice law in Illinois.
Matt’s principal areas of responsibility focus on transactional, corporate and contractual matters, including facilities, real estate, athletics, governance, finance and general corporate counseling and advice.
Matt has a strong passion for secondary and higher education matters and policies, both locally and nationally. He is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA). Matt lives in Evanston with his wife, four children and two dogs.
