Joseph D. Kline

Joseph Kline joined Northwestern University’s Office of General Counsel in 2019 as Associate General Counsel. Prior to joining Northwestern, Joe was Associate General Counsel at Baxter Healthcare Corporation providing transactional legal support and guidance to a variety of Baxter’s global businesses and organizations. Before joining Baxter, Joe was a partner in the Chicago office of Jenner & Block LLP in its corporate practice group concentrating on mergers & acquisitions, complex commercial transactions, corporate finance, and general corporate counseling and advice.

Joe received his B.A. in English and Philosophy from St. John’s University in New York City and graduated summa cum laude. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and graduated cum laude. Joe is licensed to practice law in Illinois.

Joe’s principal areas of responsibility in the Office of General Counsel are transactional and corporate matters, including: general procurement contracting; sponsored research; IT contracting; complex commercial contracts; and other general transactional counseling and advice. Joe is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA).
