Heather A. Harlan

hhHeather A. Harlan joined Northwestern University's Office of General Counsel and Investment Office in 2016 as Associate General Counsel, Investments. Prior to joining Northwestern University, she was counsel at Mayer Brown LLP in the corporate department.

Ms. Harlan received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, where she majored in Political Science. She received a Master’s degree in Political Science from Columbia University and received her law degree from the University of Notre Dame where she served as Articles Editor of the Journal of Law, Ethics and Public Policy. She is licensed to practice in Illinois and is an inactive member of the New York bar and the California bar.

Ms. Harlan is an embedded attorney with the Investment Office where her principal area of responsibility is to advise on investment matters related to Northwestern’s endowment. Ms. Harlan also works with the Office of General Counsel to provide advice on a variety of other issues including alumni relations, gift and development matters, general corporate and financial matters as well as matters involving INVO - Innovation and New Ventures Office. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA).
