NUInfo Access Policy
As with print publications distributed by the University (official catalogs, magazines such as Northwestern Perspective, the Observer, press releases from University Relations, etc.), NUInfo functions as a tool for disseminating information on behalf of the University, as well as being a starting point for Internet browsing. All of the information published on NUInfo is public.Certain information in NUInfo could be misused for commercial purposes. Such information will only be displayed to authenticated members of the University community.
Issues of privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information are considered by Northwestern University Information Technology, and may be brought to the attention of Information Technology at any time by any member of the Northwestern community. In general, custodianship of sensitive records is the responsibility of University offices maintaining such records, and no such records will be published on NUInfo without permission of the custodians.
Server Policies
- Personal pages may not be published on the NUInfo server.
- Change your password at least once each quarter.
- The NUInfo server can not be used for any purpose other than publishing. It may not be used as a mail server, and it may not be used for editing documents.
- Only Web Communications staff can give you a directory at the root of the Web server.
- All files must be flat-HTML files.
- There is no database support on NUinfo.
- All cgi-scripts must be submitted to Web Communications before they are put into production on the server. Scripts will be tested for security holes before they are released for production.
- All publishers are expected to adhere to and keep updated on Northwestern University's Web Style Guide.
