| Program Description: |
The Montpellier Summer Program, administered by the University of Minnesota, offers an intensive French language and cultural study track and is designed for students at the intermediate level, though some advanced students can also be accommodated. The program will offer 8–10 semester credits (approximately 3 NU credits) of intensive French language study for intermediate students, which will serve to cover the entire year of intermediate French here at Northwestern. Northwestern students will enroll in an eight-week term. Students interested in an advanced track on this program should contact the Study Abroad Office for more information on the courses available.
Montpellier, located in Southern France approximately 10 miles from the Mediterranean coast and 125 miles from the Spanish border, is a city that very much revolves around a vibrant, liberal student atmosphere. As one of France’s fastest growing cities and an emerging cultural and educational center, it retains the centuries-old history of intellectual advances and social tolerance. It is located in Southern France, and is the ideal place for an introduction to French language and culture due to its reasonable size, university-oriented culture, and various cultural offerings within the city.

Announcing Summer 2008 Immersion Language Grants (ILG)!
Northwestern University’s Immersion Experience Program is pleased to announce a new undergraduate initiative to promote the intensive and experiential learning of foreign languages. During the summer of 2008, the Office of the Provost will award 10 (ten) Immersion Language Grant ($2,000 each) to help defray the costs of intensive language study, completed abroad or in the United States. Students interested in the Montpellier summer program are eligible to apply for this grant, as study programs must be at least six weeks in duration and provide a setting where the target language is predominantly spoken. ILGs are intended to enhance and facilitate on-going academic and professional training. All students who apply for a grant will be asked to describe in an essay statement how intensive language study will advance their overall undergraduate education. The application deadline for the ILG is February 1, 2008, one month before the deadline for summer study abroad (March 5, 2008). For more information on Immersion Language Grants, including eligibility requirements and application materials, see www.northwestern.edu/immersion or e-mail immersion@northwestern.edu. For language intensive summer program recommendations, please contact the Study Abroad Office or the Northwestern Council on Language Instruction.
Please note that program details sometimes change. For the most updated information, please see the program Web site listed above.
