Welcome Parents
Study abroad is often a life-changing experience. We encourage you to learn about the various aspects of study abroad including Northwestern's policies and procedures, the patterns of cultural adjustment, and health and safety abroad so that you can help your child as she or he embarks on this journey.Study abroad at Northwestern is growing. In 2007-2008, 745 students studied abroad, primarily on one of our 105 affiliated programs!
Our current affiliated list includes programs in countries all over the world, in Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and Central and South America. Some programs are university-based, meaning that students live in one place and take university courses. Other programs are field-based, meaning that they focus more on fieldwork and independent research projects. Some programs specialize in a particular area of study--for example, music, classics, environmental science, or social justice--while others are general programs, with a full range of university and program course offerings.
