The Northwestern University Women's Center Feminist-in-Residence program invites community-based artist/activists to campus for one academic year. Residents are invited to further the work of gender justice through incubation of a project, artistic practice, or skill set aligned with the Women’s Center mission and goals. The resident will engage members of the Northwestern community during their residency.

Overview

The Feminist in Residence program offers the candidate: a private work space at our Chicago campus Women’s Center, access to a computer, a $10,000 stipend (before taxes), a $3000 budget for your project/on campus engagement, and a community of dedicated feminist thinkers with whom to workshop your ideas.

Residents are expected to work with our staff to plan their residency during the fall quarter, to engage with the Northwestern audience best aligned with their commitments through a single program in either winter or spring quarter, and to collaborate with Women Center staff to present their work during our annual Garden Party at the close of the school year in the form of a screening, exhibition, reading, or performance.

Goals

In support of its mission, the Women’s Center invites Feminst-in-Residence applicants committed to the Center’s overarching goals:

To raise awareness, increase knowledge, and build capacity to advance social justice through the arts.
To build alliances, promote collaboration, and foster a shared commitment to effectively serve and support women, trans, and non-binary people at Northwestern.
To present artistic works to the Northwestern community that expand conversations around contemporary and historical feminist and gender issues.
