Non-Tenure Eligible Faculty Survey
During the 2024-25 Academic Year, the Provost charged the Associate Provost for Faculty and the Office of Institution Research to conduct a survey of Non-Tenure Eligible (NTE) faculty at Northwestern. The preliminary report on the results of this survey can be found here (NetID log-in required). This effort was committed as part of the earlier Faculty Salary Gender Equity Study, which solely focused on tenure-track faculty.
This survey included all full-time, regular NTE faculty at Northwestern, excluding the Feinberg School of Medicine, and sought to capture important insights into the experience, workload and needs of this population. NTE faculty at Northwestern are a highly heterogeneous group, including teachers and practitioners, scholars and artists, clinicians and administrators. The central goal of this survey was to capture, to the extent possible, the full spectrum of responsibilities and experiences of this broad and varied population.
This report is characterized as “preliminary.” The purpose of publishing this report now is to share high-level results of this survey with the Northwestern community in a timely fashion and to illuminate initial key findings. It is our intention to publish supplementary reports, containing deeper analyses of certain results, in the coming months.
This survey was guided by a Faculty Advisory Group (names below), who provided input on all aspects of the survey, including but not limited to population, methodology, content, result display and report format. Data and operational support were provided by the Office of Institutional Research and the Associate Provost for Faculty team in the Office of the Provost.
