Toy Suliman '23

Toy SulimanToy Suliman is an undergraduate student at Northwestern University studying radio/TV/film and Asian American studies. Originally from Maryland, she is interested in the intersections of third world and film studies, as well as early childhood education and children’s media. Her SROP research is aimed at writing a screenplay based on the Chinese American community and legacy in the Mississippi Delta region. Toy is a Mellon Mays scholar, served on the executive board for the Black Mentorship Program, co-founded the Mezcla Mentorship Program for women and non-binary film students of color, and helped spearhead the NU chapter of Dissenters, an anti-militarist, abolitionist youth organization. She also enjoys working with preschoolers as a Jumpstart Corps Member and singing with Acapella group Soul4Real. After graduation, Toy hopes to pursue a career in filmmaking, media studies, and/or education.
