Sophia Hernandez (she/her/hers)Sophia is a rising third year student from Miami, Florida studying Economics and English Literature in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on Cuban-American literature, specifically the manner in which male and female authors of various sexual, gender, and socioeconomic status identities differ in their depictions of internal exile. In addition to being a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, Sophia is also a Resident Assistant. She enjoys devoting herself to ensuring that the dorms are a safe welcoming space on campus by spending time with her residents and planning various activities for them, including Chocolate Chip Pancake Sundays. After graduation, Sophia hopes to pursue a PhD in Literature and become a mentor for students from underrepresented minority groups.
