Kiana Staples (she/her/hers)Kiana is a fourth-year student from Sharon, Pennsylvania majoring in Korean Language & Culture. She also enjoys Gender and Sexuality Studies and is an avid tattoo collector, seeking out artists around Chicago to find the best American traditional artwork. During Fall Quarter 2021, Kiana will study abroad at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea. She plans to conduct a senior thesis to investigate the roles of South Korean women in Korea’s tattoo industry. In addition to being a Mellon Mays Undergraduate fellow, Kiana is also Vice President of Residential Experience for the International Studies Residential College and Editor-in-Chief for the 2022 NU Syllabus Yearbook. After graduation, she plans to pursue a PhD in Korean Studies and become a professor in an effort to encourage students of color to become more educated about each other’s histories.
