Jade Marcum (she/her/hers)Jade is an alumna of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences where she majored in History with a concentration on the Americas. Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, she is particularly interested in the Civil Rights Movement and 20th century racial relations. Her senior thesis focused on the Alabama State Sovereignty Commission, a government agency created under George Wallace; specifically the group's reaction to voting rights expansion after the Voting Rights Act and school desegregation after Brown v. Board of Education. In addition to being a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, Jade was a Franke Fellow with the Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, a Leopold Fellow through the Chabraja Center for Historical Studies and a Peer Research Mentor for the Office of Undergraduate Research. She was a Compass Mentor for first-generation and low-income students for two years and previously worked in Residential Services as well as executive board members for Homecomings 2019 and 2020, and B. Burlesque student dance group. Currently, Jade is a PhD student at Duke University, working towards her ultimate goal of getting students more excited to study history and making academia more accessible to everyone.
