Anabel Mendoza (she/her/hers)Anabel Mendoza is a Northwestern graduate. As an undergrad, she double-majored in journalism and Latino/a Studies and pursued research that focused on Latinx immigration activism and ethical media practices when it comes to reporting on Latinx immigration. She recently published her research paper "Contesting Public Discourse: How Latino/a/x Print Media Reframes Narratives of Immigration in the Age of IRCA" in the 2019 MMUF Journal and presented her 70-page thesis entitled Humanizing América: A Framework for Ethical Media Reporting on Latinx Immigration at Northwestern's Latinx Scholars in the Making event. Anabel was also selected to be Medill's 2020 Undergraduate Commencement Speaker and is currently pursuing her master's degree in social justice and investigative journalism through Medill's Accelerated Master's Program. After graduation, she plans to work for a year in a communication role that focuses on education or immigration before applying to PhD programs in Ethnic Studies.
