DeAnna Smith '16
DeAnna majored in Sociology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Currently, her research interests focus on the Sociology of Family and the Sociology of Education. DeAnna was awarded 2016 "Best Thesis" in the Northwestern University Department of Sociology. Her thesis utilized intersectional approaches to understand how liberal parenting books encourage parents to adopt certain ideologies of sex, gender, and sexuality. In 2015, DeAnna was selected as a finalist for Undergraduate Awards; a pan-discipline, international awards summit recognizing the top 10% of students in their fields. DeAnna is currently the Associate Director of College Access at the Evanton Scholar's Program.
