Gov. JB Pritzker, Morton Schapiro and three others to receive honorary degrees

Five distinguished individuals, including commencement speaker Gov. JB Pritzker and Northwestern President Emeritus Morton Schapiro, will receive honorary degrees during Northwestern’s 165th commencement ceremony at Ryan Field. 

Along with Pritzker and Schapiro, the following recipients will receive their honorary degrees at the ceremony: Dr. Agnes Binagwaho, retired vice chancellor and co-founder of the University of Global Health Equity, Rwanda; Sharon Bowen, commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and chair of the Board of the New York Stock Exchange; and Luis Valdez, playwright, director and founder of El Teatro Campesino.

Northwestern named EPA energy efficiency partner for fourth consecutive year

Northwestern has earned the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year — Sustained Excellence Award for the fourth consecutive year from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. This accolade is the highest honor given by the ENERGY STAR program, honoring businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. In 2020, Northwestern was the first university to ever receive the award.
