ISEN 412 Understanding Global Energy and Sustainability Markets

Erin Grossi is an Adjunct Professor for Northwestern's Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability (MSES) Program., teaching about global energy markets for energy and sustainability. She is presently at TRC Companies, where she .  Prior to this role, Dr. Grossi was a Senior Principal Consultant with the Accelerate Group, guiding utilities and competitive energy providers in their emerging technology and R&D pursuits, including regulatory change initiatives. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Grossi led Accenture’s electric mobility (eMobility) practice within the firm’s Strategy & Consulting group for North America. In this role, Dr. Grossi provided overall management of the practice and combined a variety of strategic and technical talents to help clients with their eMobility aspirations, EV business-development prospects, and growth initiatives tied to developing new, distributed energy systems.

Dr. Grossi is proficient with the federal and regulatory aspects of energy systems innovation and helps clients navigate related opportunities and challenges to achieve growth targets. She was promoted to eMobility Practice Lead after serving for five years as a leader for Accenture’s Global Strategy Team, helping the company scale its digital transformation work with key client accounts.

Prior to joining Accenture in September 2017, Dr. Grossi served as Chief Executive Officer of The Center for Neighborhood Technology, a nonprofit “think-and-do” organization piloting innovative, digital approaches to addressing urban challenges such as flooding, energy conservation, and upgrades to mass-transit. Dr. Grossi led a transition of CNT from more of a policy and advocacy organization to an applied R&D center for burgeoning smart cities.

Before joining CNT, she spent 11 years at Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL LLC), serving finally as their first-ever Chief Economist and Head of Corporate Innovation. She was also responsible for management and oversight of the organization’s corporate innovation portfolio, including its various new ventures and new product and service incubation units.  Dr. Grossi previously held roles as Director of Corporate Strategy & Director of Global Government Affairs in the company’s Washington, DC Office.

She earned a Master’s and Doctorate in International Commerce & Trade from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She has an Honors BA in International Relations and Spanish Language & Literature from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
