MOMENTUM BUILDS FOR ‘WE WILL’ CAMPAIGN

The Northwestern community has continued to show extraordinary support for We Will. The Campaign for Northwestern.

Nearly 95,000 supporters have contributed more than $1.73 billion to the University as part of the Campaign so far. Northwestern seeks to raise a total of $3.75 billion, with more than 141,000 donors participating in the Campaign.

The multiyear Campaign will build on Northwestern's strengths by allowing the University to realize the bold ambitions of its strategic plan, "Northwestern Will."

Gifts to the Campaign will support initiatives across all of Northwestern's schools, as well as Northwestern Medicine and a range of other University programs. By funding the goals of the strategic plan, the Campaign will further advance the University and solidify its position among the world's leading research universities.

All gifts, in any amount that is meaningful to you, have a tremendous collective impact on Northwestern. Please make your gift — not just once, but every year of the Campaign — at wewill.northwestern.edu

CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS INNOVATIVE RESEARCH

Two distinguished Northwestern professors, Chad Mirkin and Jan Eberly, spoke to alumni and friends at a Campaign celebration event in Washington, D.C., in September, highlighting the importance of donors' generosity to research across the University. Meanwhile, three students spoke about the importance of giving to scholarships, study abroad programs and other areas that have a direct impact on today's students.

Mirkin, founding director of the International Institute for Nanotechnology at Northwestern and George B. Rathmann Professor of Chemistry, explained nanotechnology's potential to transform fields ranging from energy to medicine.

"Nanotechnology is still in its infancy," said Mirkin, a member of President Barack Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. "We have a long way to go — and with support from visionary donors like you, we are confident that we will realize this promise."

Eberly served as the assistant secretary for economic policy at the U.S. Treasury from 2011 to 2013. She is now the Kellogg School of Management's inaugural James R. and Helen D. Russell Distinguished Professor of Finance, an endowed professorship made possible by a Campaign estate gift from Jim Russell '35. Eberly said her endowed professorship has given her the flexibility to pursue groundbreaking research in fields ranging from credit policy to the implications of student debt.

"Northwestern faculty are able to make leadership contributions to a number of critical emerging fields like these, and this leadership is made possible by our generous community of donors," she said.
