International Student Newsletter - March 8, 2023

Are you traveling outside the U.S. over Spring break?

If yes, be sure to review important information on our F-1/J-1 Travel webpage. If you need a travel signature on your I-20, be sure to submit your Travel Signature Request via the OISS portal at least one week in advance of your planned travel.

What is a "Travel Signature"?

A travel signature (endorsement) is relevant only to F-1 students or J-1 students and scholars (and their dependents) who are planning to travel abroad and return to the U.S. in F or J status. This includes alumni who remain in F or J status for post-graduation F-1 OPT or J-1 AT. You must have an unexpired travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019 on the date you re-enter the U.S. See the OISS F-1/J-1 Travel webpage for more details.

Travel Endorsement section is on page 2 of the Form I-20:

Rising sophomores, please join the SESP Leadership Institute (SLI) team for a reading week break next week! There will be snacks as well as some stress-relieving activities. Come learn about the program and get support completing an interest form to participate in SLI. And stay tuned for more info session dates and locations in Spring quarter.

Upcoming Winter Quarter SLI information tables and snack breaks will take place on:

  • Thursday, March 9 from 12:00 pm – 5 pm at SESP Annenberg Hall 1st floor lobby

Can’t come in person? Then, please join an upcoming virtual information session on:

SLI is an academic and community-building program that centers the experiences of students at Northwestern who identify as first-generation and/or from lower-income (FGLI) backgrounds. We are excited to announce that we are recruiting for our Fall 2023 program. Earn two academic credits, both of which count as SESP degree requirements (or electives for students outside of SESP). If you and/or someone you know are FGLI identifying, SLI would be a great option for you to consider.
