April 15th: Deadline for filing 2023 federal tax returns with the IRS

Helpful Resources:

Do you need more time?

If you need more time to complete your tax return, you will need to file Form 4868 (Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return) to request an automatic deadline extension to August 15.

It’s important to note that you will not be notified if your extension request is approved – the process is automatic.  If you owe any taxes, you must still mail the estimated tax payment by the April 15 deadline or you will have to pay penalties and interest on any payment owed.
