Susan Keen Pierce, PhD

Dr. Susan Keen Pierce was recruited to the Northwestern faculty in 1977 as an assistant professor of biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology. She attended Pennsylvania State University where she completed her bachelor’s degree in microbiology. She earned a master’s degree in microbiology at Yale University before returning to Pennsylvania State to complete a PhD in immunology. While at Northwestern, in addition to teaching biochemistry and molecular biology, Dr. Pierce served as the Cook Chair in Biological Sciences. Dr. Pierce now serves as Chief in the Lymphocyte Activation Section at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.
