Sarah Houston completed her BA at Northwestern in 1963. That same summer she attended the University of Michigan’s Far Eastern Languages Institute before attending Indiana University Bloomington to earn her doctoral degree in 1966. That fall Dr. Houston began working at Northwestern University as an assistant professor of linguistics. Her work focused on sociolinguistic considerations as well as psycholinguistics. Some of her notable works include “Child Black English in Northern Florida” and an investigation of the Peace Corp’s Dual Language programs.
