Mary Karp, PhD

Dr. Mary Karp began work as an associate professor of anesthesiology at Northwestern in 1945. Prior to her faculty appointment she served as the head of anesthesiology at Western Memorial Hospital from 1934 until 1945 and then served as the head of anesthesiology at Passavant Memorial Hospital beginning in 1945. During her time at Northwestern, Dr. Karp was interested in cardio respiratory physiology and contributed to research on the use of penicillin to treat respiratory infections.
