Sociology Department, 1975-1981
Janet Lever, PhD

Janet Lever served as an assistant professor of sociology at Northwestern from 1975 to 1981. Her research interests included sex differences in games and she completed her dissertation on soccer in Brazil. In 1981, Dr. Lever filed a lawsuit against the university charging that gender discrimination prevented her from receiving a tenured position as an associate professor of sociology. Even after her suit, she was not promoted, and she left the university in 1984.
