Potential Impact

While the University and the union engage in the collective bargaining process, we expect there will be questions about how things might change with a graduate student union on campus. Please bear in mind that the impact of graduate student unionization will not fully be known or understood until an initial contract is finalized.

Amount of Funding/Stipends

All PhD students currently receive a minimum annual stipend of $36,960, full tuition scholarship, and subsidy of the NU-SHIP annual healthcare premium and health services fee (an annual value of $5,942). As of the 2023 fiscal year (FY23), MFA students also are fully funded when registered full-time in a funded registration. Northwestern guarantees a minimum of 5 years (20 quarters) of support for all PhD students.
