Update on Graduate Student Union Negotiations

Dear members of the Northwestern community,

Late Wednesday, bargaining teams from Northwestern and the graduate student union (NUGW-UE) reached a full tentative agreement on the terms of an initial contract. We sincerely appreciate the union’s engagement throughout the negotiations.

As the next step in this process, the union will hold a ratification vote. We look forward to a positive result that will allow us all to continue the incredible work that takes place in our classrooms, labs and studios.

The full tentative agreement contains terms that, if ratified, will impact many University practices and operations. We are working with schools and units to prepare for a smooth transition and will provide guidance on implementation when appropriate.

We will continue to publish our communications and other updates on the graduate student unionization website, and we encourage members of the community to submit questions or provide feedback through the online form.
