Partial completion: December 2011
Full completion: Spring 2012
Traffic light installation: Summer 2012

Project Description & Statistics

The Garrett parking lot has been reconfigured to accommodate a new set of traffic lights. This new junction is now known as Northwestern Place. The design required the removal of the existing fire lane around Lunt Hall, which has been replaced with a centrally located fire lane on the east side of Shandley Hall. The driveway into and through campus has been straightened and new crosswalks have been introduced. New safety lighting has been provided throughout the construction area and five new emergency phone/cameras have been installed. Significant landscaping will be completed by Spring 2012 and the new traffic lights will be installed by Summer 2012. The frontage of the university onto Sheridan Road has been considerably enhanced with this project. Northwestern and the City of Evanston collaborated closely on the implementation of this project.
