EvanSTEM

Image of children washing their hands in sudsy water.Northwestern, in partnership with the City of Evanston, Evanston Public Library, Evanston/Skokie School District 65, Evanston Township High School (ETHS) District 202, McGaw YMCA, Family Focus and Youth and Opportunity United (Y.O.U.), helped launch EvanSTEM, a program that seeks to improve access and engagement for students who have traditionally underperformed or have been underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs. Through EvanSTEM, Northwestern’s Digital Youth Network and Evanston-Skokie District 65 created and launched the online learning platform EL3. This platform serves as a digital backpack for students to connect in and out-of-school learning as well as showcase their growing STEM skill set.

Our office participates in the Coordination Circle, planning and implementing community STEM initiatives. Additionally the Partnership Coordinator participates in conferences and communities of practice in the larger national STEM Ecosystem. Our office coordinated the participation of Northwestern’s McCormick Graduate Leadership Council at the Fifth Ward STEM Fest and monthly outreach at Family Focus.
