Emerge

The Community Service Office at Evanston Township High School (ETHS) has a long history of collaboration with Northwestern’s Center for Civic Engagement. Since 2008, the Emerge Leadership Program begun by Northwestern students has served over 250 high school students, with support from the Evanston Community Foundation. Each year sophomores student teams in Emerge research community issues and work together to address these challenges. Over the school year, students meet monthly in evening workshops. ETHS community service coordinator, Diana Balitaan manages the program, with support from Leadership Evanston and from Emerge, a Northwestern student organization that facilitates activities and mentors project teams. Juniors who were in the previous year’s Emerge program also participate as facilitators and mentors.

Our office supports the Emerge program facilitating connections to faculty and programs at Northwestern, such as psychology professor Jennifer Tackett, who researches leadership development in adolescents and the Northwestern Leadership and Community Engagement division of Student Affairs.
