The 2017 Fall/Winter Constance Campbell Travel Award Winners Announced

By: Chelsea Castleberry, CRS Program Assistant, December 20, 2017

Four winners have been chosen for the 2017 Fall/Winter Constance Campbell Travel Awards. This cycle, the Center for Reproductive Science received many outstanding applications from graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical residents and fellows.  The high caliber of each application made the decision-making process very difficult for the committee of CRS faculty members who performed a rigorous and blinded review.

Please join us in congratulating these CRS members who will be presenting their work at national and international meetings!

Anne Dude, MD, PhD, a Clinical Fellow in Maternal Fetal Medicine working with Drs. William Grobman and Emily Miller, will use her travel award to present at the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, January 29th – February 3rd 2018, in Dallas Texas.

" I am delighted and grateful to receive this support to present my work at the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine Annual Meeting. Attending this meeting will allow me to receive timely feedback on my work as I submit it for publication, as well as to meet with leaders in the field from around the country." – Anne Dude, MD, PhD

Arangassery Rosemary Bastian, PhD, a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Dr. Thomas Hope’s laboratory, will be presenting at the HIV Research for Prevention (HIVR4P) meeting, October 21-25th, 2018, in Madrid, Spain.

“This travel grant will be very helpful in providing me the support for attending the 2018 R4P conference and showcasing some of our ground-breaking research on mucosal vaccine development to experts in the HIV prevention and vaccine field.” – Rosemary Bastian, PhD

Amanda Roca, an IBiS Graduate Student in Dr. Sadie Wignall’s laboratory, presented at the American Society for Cell Biology meeting, December 2nd – 6th 2017, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“Thank you so much to CRS for supporting my travel to the American Society for Cell Biology conference this year! This conference provides an excellent platform to interact with scientists in my field and get feedback on my project concerning cell divisions in female eggs. It's wonderful that CRS supports scientists in both basic cell biology, as well as the more translational/clinical work."– Amanda Roca

Dana Kimelman, MD, a MS in Reproductive Science and Medicine Student in Dr. Mary Ellen Pavone’s laboratory, will be presenting at the Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI) Annual Scientific Meeting, March 7th – 10th 2018, in San Diego, California.

“I come from a tiny country where there is no research on reproductive science. This award means a lot to me because I will be able to share my research and learn from outstanding scientists from all around the world. I promise I will commit myself to continue with my research in my home country using the tools that the CRS has given me to become a better physician and scientist.” – Dana Kimelman, MD

More about the Constance Campbell Travel Awards:

Professor Constance Campbell, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences atConnie Campbell Northwestern, researched the relationship between the environment and sexual and other behaviors, administered the undergraduate honors program, and served as a preceptor in the Program for Reproductive Biology that Professor Neena B. Schwartz organized and that preceded the Center for Reproductive Science. Professor Campbell was promoted to Associate Professor and granted tenure in 1980, however, lost her battle with cancer only a year later. In her memory, her husband Dr. Jack Davis, family, friends, and colleagues, established the Constance Campbell Memorial Fund. Since 1989, this fund has been used for the Constance Campbell Memorial Research Awards and Travel Awards. Funds from these awards can be used by its’ recipients to help defray travel costs to scientific meetings and conferences.
