Benefits and Compensation for Food Service Workers

Dear members of the Northwestern community,

Many things have changed over the past several weeks as we work together to slow the spread of COVID-19, but one constant is our commitment to our students, faculty, staff and the almost 600 food service workers who are an integral part of the Northwestern community.

Our goal is to provide as much stability and continuity as possible during these uncertain times. Supporting these key members of our University community is a critically important piece of that effort.

To do so, Northwestern is partnering with our food service provider, Compass Group, to provide financial support and to leverage the federal stimulus package to make certain all hourly food service workers continue to receive benefits and compensation equal to their current full-time status for the entire Spring Quarter. By doing this, we can collectively ensure that our partners are financially whole through the end of the academic year in June.

The pandemic that has impacted our community and our world means that things can change rapidly. We understand that there are still many questions about different facets of University life. We are working as quickly as we can to find solutions and are committed to communicating with you as decisions are made.

We truly appreciate your partnership and feedback in this continually evolving landscape.

Be well,
