You've Applied...Now What?

Congratulations on submitting your Northwestern study abroad application! It can take up to 6 weeks for your application to be reviewed. Review how applications are evaluated, and in the meantime, work on these steps:

Do you have another application?

If you're applying to a Northwestern program, GESI, or CASA, your Northwestern application is the only application you must submit. Your application to study abroad is done.

If you're applying to an exchange, affiliated, or unaffiliated program, you're not done! In addition to completing the Northwestern study abroad application, you must complete a program application through your host university or external program provider. Check deadlines on your program page. Note: If your program application requires adviser approval, this will come from your GLO adviser. GLO advisers will complete these approvals after your Northwestern study abroad application is reviewed.

For all programs, external scholarships can help support your study abroad adventure. Review our list of suggested scholarships and apply by the appropriate deadline.

Get in-depth.

Continue researching your program, host country/city, and ways to fund your study abroad experience.

Take care of logistics.

Apply for your passport. You will need a passport that expires more than six months after the end of your program. Don't wait - apply for a passport or renew your passport now!

Figure out if you need a student visa. We're not talking credit cards - some countries require student travelers to obtain a visa prior to arriving in the country. Check your program page for visa-specific information.

Submit your financial aid application for the next academic year.

Financial aid recipients should also meet with Christine Charles in the financial aid office if you have not already done so.

Confirm your intent to study abroad!

If you are approved to study abroad, congratulations!

The next step is to confirm your participation in the GLObal Gateway by the appropriate deadline below.
