The U.S. State Department Web page contains essential information,
including travel safety advisories, crisis assistance to U.S.
citizens abroad, U.S. embassies and consulates abroad, and
passport services.
Students should monitor this site for the latest information
about their study and travel destinations. Northwestern
University students are strongly advised not to participate
in a program sponsored by another U.S. institution or to enroll
directly in a foreign university in a country that carries
a State Department Travel Warning.

about your destination, as well as the Travel
Safety Information for Students, which alerts students
about threats to their safety or welfare while traveling during
their spring and summer breaks.

Abroad Safety Handbook
Published by the Safety Abroad First-Educational Travel Information
(SAFETI) Clearinghouse of the University of Southern California's
Center for Global Education in the Rossier School of Education.
SAFETI was founded in 1998 by the Fund for the Improvement
of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) of the US Department of
Education to serve as a US college and university resource
in the area of health and safety and effective support for
study abroad. SAFETI's online newsletter is particularly useful.

Center for Infectious Diseases: Travelers' Health
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides information
on communicable diseases that are common in different parts
of the world and recommends what immunizations and other precautions
to take when traveling.
International
Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers (IAMAT)
This non-profit organization can assist with locating English-speaking
physicians worldwide and has information about health conditions
in certain regions.
